Medical and procedural treatment for hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) - Where are we? Mid 2023

Hair loss can be extremely difficult to treat, but treatment options are available with good success rates if caught early. Novel medical and procedural treatment options for male and female androgenetic alopecia are: topical and low-dose oral minoxidil, the latter has made its clinical debut, while data on spironolactone, finasteride, dutasteride and nutritional supplements have advanced somewhat.

Minimally invasive biological and technological advancements include photobiomodulation and platelet-rich plasma (PRP therapy). Laser therapy is generally not recommended. Within hair transplantation, follicular unit extraction and robotics are now further being developed.
