It is a sole aim to reduce elbow pain, improve elbow function and get people back to their normal daily activities or sport as soon as possible. We can provide many different types of elbow pain treatments that may be suitable for your condition.
WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF ELBOW PAIN AND INJURY?
Elbow pain, specifically tendinitis, is extremely common. This again, is one of the most common musculoskeletal conditions we see at our clinic every day. It can cause significant pain and disability. Most cases of elbow pain and injury are triggered by a combination of overuse, repetitive strain, occupational strain, injury (or trauma), and inflammation to the structures of the elbow or wrist. Severity varies, but below are some examples of common causes of wrist or elbow pain and injury.

COMMON TYPES OF ELBOW PAIN
-
Soft tissue injury to muscles, tendons, ligaments
-
Tennis elbow
-
Golfers elbow
-
Wrist tendinitis
-
Osteoarthritis
-
Spinal referred pain
-
Bursitis
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN ACUTE AND CHRONIC ELBOW PAIN
-
ACUTE ELBOW PAIN is often due to direct trauma or injuries such as ligament tears, or sprains.
-
CHRONIC ELBOW PAIN may be a results from progressive wear and tear, repetitive strain, chronic tendintis or degenerative conditions like osteoarthritis.
It is extremely important to be aware of more sinister causes of wrist or elbow pain, like inflammatory arthritis (rheumatoid arthritis), gout or neurological dysfunction. Other important symptoms to be aware of are prolonged stiffness, increased swelling, multiple joint pain/swelling, fever, altered sensation or tingling, loss of strength, fatigue, weight loss and night pain.
WHAT ARE THE COMMON ELBOW CONDITIONS WE TREAT?
At our Birmingham Elbow Pain Clinic, we specialise in diagnosing and treating a wide range of elbow complaints using a wide range of treatments, including regenerative and nonsurgical therapies. Whether caused by overuse, trauma, inflammation, or joint degeneration, below is a list of common conditions associated with elbow pain and dysfunction:
Tennis elbow is caused by overuse or overload of the forearm extensor tendons, leading to pain on the outside of the elbow. It commonly affects both athletes and non-athletes involved in repetitive gripping or lifting. Image-guided injection therapy can reduce tendon inflammation and pain while supporting tendon health, allowing more effective rehabilitation and long-term recovery.

Golfer’s elbow affects the tendons on the inner side of the elbow and is often associated with repetitive wrist flexion or gripping activities. Symptoms include pain, weakness, and reduced grip strength. Injection therapy can help settle inflammation and promote tendon healing, enabling patients to progress with strengthening and load-management programmes.
Elbow bursitis occurs when the fluid-filled bursa at the back of the elbow becomes inflamed due to pressure, trauma, or repetitive leaning. This can cause swelling, tenderness, and discomfort during movement. Targeted injection therapy can reduce inflammation and pain, supporting a faster return to normal elbow function.

Triceps Tendinopathy
Triceps tendinopathy causes pain at the back of the elbow, particularly during pushing, pressing, or overhead activities. It is common in weight-training and throwing sports. Image-guided injection therapy can reduce tendon pain and support tissue recovery, allowing patients to safely rebuild strength and load tolerance through rehabilitation.
Biceps Tendinopathy (Distal Biceps)
Distal biceps tendinopathy affects the tendon at the front of the elbow and can cause pain during lifting, pulling, or twisting movements. Injection therapy can help reduce inflammation and discomfort while supporting tendon health, enabling improved function and progression with targeted strengthening exercises.

Advanced Injection Therapy for Elbow Pain
Injection therapy plays a key role in managing elbow pain by targeting inflamed tendons or bursae with precision. Image-guided techniques improve accuracy, enhance pain relief, and support tissue healing, helping patients return to work, training, and daily activities more comfortably.
Sports-Related Elbow Injuries & Return to Sport
Elbow injuries are common in sports involving gripping, throwing, or repetitive arm loading, such as tennis, golf, climbing, CrossFit, weightlifting, and rugby. At Dynamic Regenerative Medicine, we use a sports-focused approach combining injection therapy with progressive rehabilitation to reduce pain, restore strength, and improve load tolerance.
Supporting Cartilage Health and Joint Preservation
For many elbow conditions, particularly tendinitis and cartilage injuries, the goal is not just pain relief but long-term tissue and joint preservation. Our injection treatments are designed to support healing and cartilage health, reduce ongoing wear, and slow degenerative changes within the elbow, helping patients maintain function and delay or avoid surgical intervention.
Combining Injections with Expert Rehabilitation
Injection therapy is most effective when combined with a structured rehabilitation programme. By reducing pain and inflammation first, patients are able to move more freely, strengthen key muscle groups, and correct biomechanical faults. This integrated approach leads to more durable outcomes and reduces the risk of recurrence.
WHAT ARE THE TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR ELBOW PAIN & INJURY?
Fortunately, there are many different options for the treatment of wrist and elbow pain or injury that can help and assist. These treatments include:
CONSERVATIVE THERAPY
-
Osteopathy (manual therapy)
-
Physiotherapy (physical therapy)
-
Injury rehab
-
Strapping
-
Acupuncture / Dry needling
WRIST AND ELBOW INJECTION TREATMENT
-
Wrist and elbow injection (cortisone, platelet rich plasma PRP)
-
Elbow tendinitis injection therapy
-
Soft tissue injection (tennis elbow or golfers elbow)
-
Wrist or elbow aspiration (fluid drain)
-
Anti-inflammatory injection treatment
REGENERATIVE INJECTION THERAPY
-
PRP injection therapy
-
Stem cell therapy
-
Prolotherapy
-
Hyaluronic acid injection treatment

Many cases of musculoskeletal pain and injury can heal well with the correct care and advice. Many cases of wrist and elbow pain we see here at our Birmingham and Solihull clinics can be dealt with and treated successfully with conservative treatment methods. However, If patients do not respond adequately to conservative treatment or the issue is getting worse, consideration for injection therapy may be discussed. At Dynamic Regenerative Medicine, we have built ourselves a very good reputation of delivering high quality regenerative treatments for elbow pain and injury. The most popular by far being P-PRP injection treatment, in which patients travel from all over the UK to see us for treatment (further information can be found on the ORTHOBIOLOGICS link below). If patients are showing signs of advanced injury or disease then we may discuss the option for an MRI scanning, to get diagnostic clarity of what it is that may be causing the issue.
If a cause of your wrist or elbow pain is suspected to be of an inflammatory or rheumatological cause, then you may be asked to provide a blood test and lab panel to check for raised inflammatory markers - ESR, CRP and TNFa, and maybe immunological makers.
Referral for Specialist Imaging or Private MRI Scans
At our musculoskeletal pain and injury clinic, we can provide ultrasound imaging to look for signs of tissue damage and inflammation. However, occanionally we may require a more in-depth analysis. If a private MRI scan is considered, we will put in a referral to our local Imaging Centre in Solihull. You will then be contacted and booked in within 5-10 days. Following your scan, the report will be completed by our colleague Dr David Beale (Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist). This report will then come back to the Dynamic Clinic and will we then discuss with you then best course of treatment for your compliant.
In some cases we may refer to our trusted colleagues Mr Tom Lawrence (Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon) or Mr Gunaratnam Shyamalan (Consultant Hand Surgeon) for surgical opinion.
Elbow Pain Assessment and Diagnosis with Dynamic Regenerative Medicine
To help with your wrist or elbow pain, firstly we need to know what may be causing the issue. To do this we have to provide a thorough wrist and elbow pain and injury assessment. If you have been having wrist or elbow pain which does not appear to be getting better or is impacting on your function, it is recommended to see a musculoskeletal professional. Here, they will be able to provide a full assessment, gain information to make a diagnosis and provide the best treatment and management of your condition to get you back to full function again and pain free.
