WHAT IS BRUXISM?
Bruxism is a very common condition, caused from over clenching of the jaw. If chronic, this can lead to long-term damage to your teeth and jaw/TMJ, and if not treated effectively, the consequences can be significant and difficult to treat. Grinding your teeth at night or during the day can be a response to stress or anxiety, which can be difficult to manage on your own. Jaw pain, clicking, and headaches can accompany these issues as well. Our skilled team at Dynamic Regenerative Medicine are experts in diagnosing and treating these issues. We offer effective treatment tailored to each individual’s needs, and can successfully treat the associated pain and prevent further dental or TMJ problems from arising.

TMJ AND JAW PAIN
The TMJ (temporomandibular joint) is the jaw joint, where your skull attaches to your jaw bone (mandible). This is a very complex joint that can be very problematic in many people. As mentioned above, TMJ disorders can arise from various factors, including jaw injury, arthritis or bruxism. This TMJ is an extremely powerful joint, so has a disc in the centre that assists with gliding movement and compression forces. Over a period of time or with injury this disc can become warn or damaged, leading to pain, clicking, popping and even arthritis.
Dynamic Regenerative Medicine has a fantastic reputation within the treatment of pain and injury, and has gained this reputation from helping thousands of patients from all over the UK get out of pain and back to normal life. Mr Adam Whatley, our clinical director, has a specialised background with a masters degree in the TMJ and jaw pain, and has a very keen interest help patients in this very common area.
Here at our musculoskeletal pain and injury clinic in the Birmingham, we are providing state-of-the-art specialist non-surgical treatments including treatments used in regenerative medicine. It is our aim to get you back to full function, and the activities you enjoy.

Although far more uncommon, it is also very important to be aware of more sinister causes of jaw pain, like infection and inflammatory arthritis. These can be associated with immunosuppression, chronic disease, diabetes or following dental surgery. Other important symptoms to be aware of are significant pain, fever and fatigue. In any case, a blood test and joint aspiration is necessary to test for infection.
WHAT IS JAW BOTOX AND HOW DOES IT HELP WITH PAIN?
Botox is a safe and effective treatment often used for bruxism and TMJ pain. Our treatment involves a simple and non-invasive injection that relaxes the activity of the masseter muscle, which is the main muscle used for biting. With our advanced techniques and personalised approach, we aim to help our patients achieve lasting relief from their symptoms.
Benefits of jaw Botox injections
-
Improved tension headaches
-
Improved eating
-
Improved teeth health
Botox treatment for jaw pain and masseter muscle hypertrophy (increased muscle size) is now becoming very popular not just for jaw pain and dental health, but for jaw slimming also. Masseter muscle hypertrophy can often lead to increased jaw widening, and Botox is an effective simple treatment in jaw slimming. Furthermore, there has been extensive clinical trials in the safety and effectiveness of Botox jaw injections over the past few years that can been seen below.
Please note that is it very important to appreciate that success rates, although very good, are often down to many factors - like severity and lifestyle habits. In certain cases where the severity is to too far advanced, surgical option may be required.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM JAW BOTOX IN BIRMINGHAM?
If you are suffering with jaw pain, discomfort, disfunction or bruxism, then you may be able to benefit from jaw Botox treatment. This is a very simple, quick, popular, safe and effective treatment used by many patients, with very pleasing good success rates. Fortunately, many cases of bruxism, jaw pain and injuries we see here at our jaw pain clinic in Birmingham are dealt with and treated successfully with conservative treatment modalities. If patients do not respond adequately to conservative treatment or the problem is getting worse, then consideration for TMJ joint injection therapy may be discussed. If patients are showing signs of advanced injury or disease then we may discuss the option for an MRI scanning, to get diagnostic clarity of what it is that may be causing the issue. In some cases related to trauma, there may be TMJ disc displacement or damage that may require surgical option.
If a cause of your jaw pain is suspected to be of an inflammatory origin, then you will be asked to provide a blood test and lab panel to check for raised inflammatory markers - ESR, CRP and TNFa, and maybe immunological makers.
Specialist Imaging or MRI Scan
At the Dynamic Regenerative Medicine, we can provide ultrasound imaging to look for signs of tissue damage and inflammation. However, on occasions we may require a more in-depth analysis. If a private MRI scan is considered, we will put in a local referral to our Imaging Centre. You will then be contacted and booked in within 5-10 days. Following your scan, the report will be completed by our colleagues. This report will then come back to us and will we then discuss with you then best course of treatment for your compliant.
