A question we often get asked is what is the difference between stem cell injection and PRP injection as they are both forms of regenerative therapy. Ultimately, what is the most effective?
The answer is they are both very good forms of treatment with very good outcomes for suitable candidate. A recent August 2022 study looked at the comparative differences in a New study titled ‘Autologous microfragmented adipose tissue and leukocyte-poor platelet-rich plasma combined with hyaluronic acid show comparable clinical outcomes for symptomatic early knee osteoarthritis over a two-year follow-up period: a prospective randomized clinical trial’.
Within the study they found and concluded that the stem cell adipose tissue injection treatment did not show significant superior clinical improvement compared with PRP combined with HA injection treatment in terms of functional improvement at different follow-up points. Both treatments were safe with no major complications reporting good results at mid-term follow-up, improving knee function, pain, and quality of live regardless of age and gender.
In our opinion, stem cell injections of very invasive and hugely expensive. Whereas, PRP treatments and hyaluronic acid treatments are very quick and straightforward, minimally invasive, and more cost-effective. Furthermore, they equate to minimal downtime, where the patient can generally carry on with normal activities the following day and can continue appropriate strengthening and mobility exercises.
