Long-Term Effectiveness and Safety of Dutasteride versus Finasteride in Patients with Male Androgenic Alopecia: A Multicentre Chart Review Study.
Dutasteride improves hair growth compared with finasteride in male androgenic alopecia (AGA) and is well tolerated. However, long term evidence for dutasteride use in AGA is needed. The objective of this study is to describe characteristics, treatment and long-term safety and effectiveness of dutasteride versus finasteride.
This was a multicentre, retrospective medical chart review study. Baseline characteristics were assessed 6 months prior to start. Safety and effectiveness was collected throughout.
600 male adult patients were included. Among patients treated with recommended dosing exclusively, dutasteride-treated patients showed greater improvement in hair growth than finasteride-treated patients.
In conclusion, dutasteride showed greater effectiveness over finasteride in improving in treating male pattern hair loss and had a similar or possibly lower occurrence of overall reactions. Dutasteride can provide an effective and safe treatment option for male patients with androgenetic alopecia (pattern hair loss).
Many hair loss sufferers are interested in pursuing the treatment of dutasteride are a little bit concerned about the side-effects. Fortunately, now we have topical dutasteride mesotherapy with minimal systemic absorption and practically no side-effects.
