What Is The Difference Between Cortisone & PRP Injection, and what is the most effective?

To simplify, cortisone is an anti-inflammatory treatment that is used to reduce inflammation. The positive with cortisone is that it is good at reducing pain, but the negatives are that it generally is only short lived and is not a good long term solution for managing pain and injury. Although relatively good at reducing pain short term, another downside is that cortisone is a steroid treatment which can have negative implications for weakening tissue health and further contributing towards tissue degradation and degeneration. PRP on the other hand is a pro-inflammatory treatment that works to simulate a repair process of damaged tissue, generally strengthen tissue health. Many clinical studies comparing cortisone and PRP are finding PRP treatment to be safer with better long term outcomes in pain reduction and improved tissue healing, along with improved function.
